About the job

An exciting opportunity has been created with a leading Life Sciences organisation embedded in the infrastructure of the Biopharmaceutical global research and training sector for an innovative Technology Leader to stand up a Director of Technology & Data function for the organisation and then develop and refine that function focusing on operations, technology and data & innovation both internally and externally and contribute to the Site Leadership team to fully achieve its organisational goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Technology:

  • Define, implement and manage the technology strategy for the organisation.
  • Understand the current technology in use within the sphere of operations.
  • Understand the wider application and use of technology within the Bioprocessing industry.
  • Understand the vendor landscape (who is developing the technology) as well as understanding their development roadmaps and any opportunities for the organisation to contribute to those roadmaps.
  • Identify and lead the development of any potential partnership opportunities with key technology vendors.
  • Identify and lead the development of any joint development opportunities and potential co-ownership of IP.
  • Deep dive the current technology usage with key scientific and operational stakeholders.
  • Understand any potential technology efficiencies, changes and innovations.
  • Understand any automation / robotics opportunities.

Data:

  • Define, implement and manage the Data strategy for the organisation
  • Understand and track where all the current repositories of their data are located.
  • Understand the relative importance of the data in the overall process.
  • Create a data model and define the associated mastering approach for the data.
  • Define, implement and own the data governance process.
  • Retention of data (GDPR etc.)
  • Backup / Restore of data.
  • Storage of data.
  • Classification and categorisation of data.
  • Deletion of Data.
  • Access and usage of Data.
  • Develop ways to use data output to drive efficiencies in the Bioprocessing industry.
  • Automation and RPA opportunities.
  • Data Analytics and Reporting opportunities.

Operations:

  • Select, manage and implement partnerships for outsourced services with IT Vendors / Service Providers.
  • Develop KPI’s to ensure outsourced services are being delivered in the most efficient and effective way.
  • Be the strategic driver, the main part of the selection process and the key decision maker for business enabling applications like HRMS and ERP.
  • Be the internal escalation point for issues with service provision and for holding the IT Vendor / Service Provider to account when things go wrong.
  • Be able to translate key business requirements to proposed solutions that can easily be implemented by the IT Vendor / Service Provider.
  • Be the budget holder for the IT function and understand the Opex and Capex elements of the budget.
  • Drive down cost of day-to-day services while at the same time looking to maximise the value of the solutions delivered.
  • Develop a Cyber Security strategy in conjunction with the IT Vendor / Service provider and be ultimately responsible for its implementation and ongoing compliance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ Years in a senior IT management or IT technology role.
  • BSc or equivalent in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Experience in writing RFP / RFI documents and responses.
  • Experience in writing ambitious and achievable strategy documents.
  • Experience and proven delivery at turning strategy into reality.
  • Able to interact with Senior & CxO level leaders.
  • Experience managing 3rd Party Vendors and IT Service Providers.
  • Experience in managing outsourced service relationships.
  • Experience of managing budgets (Capex and Opex.)
  • Experience of financial budgeting and planning and writing and justifying business cases.
  • People leader experience including performance management and developmental planning.
  • Experience in a Pharma manufacturing business with an understanding of automation and robotics.
  • Understanding the regulations as applied to IT within GxP environments
