We are partnering with a growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy to appoint an experienced Director of Engineering to lead its mechanical, electrical and automation engineering function.
This is a senior leadership role suited to an engineering leader who combines strong technical credibility with people leadership, strategic thinking and practical project delivery experience. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping engineering strategy, improving standards and ways of working, developing teams, and supporting the continued growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a multidisciplinary engineering function across mechanical, electrical and automation teams.
- Manage, mentor and develop senior engineers and technical leads.
- Support the development and implementation of engineering strategy.
- Improve engineering standards, tools, systems, reporting structures and ways of working.
- Provide senior technical guidance across projects to ensure coordinated, robust and high-quality engineering delivery.
- Build strong technical relationships with clients and act as a senior engineering representative.
- Work closely with project management, construction management and commercial teams.
- Support career development pathways and professional growth for engineering talent.
- Drive continuous improvement, including the use of digital tools, AI and internal systems.
Qualifications & Experience
You will bring significant experience in an engineering leadership role within a technical, project-based environment such as consultancy, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, medical device or advanced manufacturing.
You will also have:
- Proven experience managing and developing engineering teams.
- Strong technical grounding in mechanical, electrical or automation engineering.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and influencing technical decision-making.
- Strong client-facing, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience at Engineering Director, Associate Director, Head of Engineering or similar level is desirable.
- Exposure to engineering strategy, technical governance, digitalisation, AI or process improvement would be an advantage.
